Our tax clinic has been operating for the past 20 years and was founded by the University of Alberta’s Accounting Club in conjunction with the Canada Revenue Agency. On average, we have completed 2500 tax returns per year for low-income individuals. In addition, we have an average of 200 student volunteers, all of whom go through a mandatory training session. These volunteers are mostly Accounting students at the University of Alberta and support the operation of our program.
Our tax clinic is a free service that allows low-income individuals to have their annual tax returns completed. The clinic operates as a drop-in event where clients come into our organized facility to have their tax return processed. In addition to completing their tax returns, our volunteers also walk the clients through the tax software and often explain the different steps involved in completing their personal tax return. As a result, we help both our student volunteers and clients to gain a basic understanding of personal tax returns.
Location and Hours: We are located in the Tory/Business atrium at the University of Alberta. Our clinic will operate Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for 3 weeks in March 2019. We encourage clients to come earlier rather than later to avoid the big lineups and ensure your return is processed.
